- Description
- When you create a new translation of a page, the system will, by default, set the language of the new page to the first language that is supported on the wiki site.
Many Tiki installation allow ALL languages to be supported, so, that default is usually Arabic.
It's really easy for the user to forget to specify the language of the page. I (AD) have done this many times.
Two solutions.
Solution 1: Leave the the language to "undefined", so the user is forced to set it.
Solution 2: Leverage knowlege about languages that the can translate to, so that the picklist only includes those languages.
Solution 1 will garantee that the user will make a conscious decision about what language to set the language to.
If the user only speaks two languages, then Solution 2 should choose the correct language by default. But it won't if the user can speak more than two languages. Also, it will make it impossible for a power user who, for example, doesn't speak Arabic, to help fix problems with the language assignement of Arabic pages.
So... I think solution 1 is the way to go.
